About The Samaja (ସମାଜ) ePaper

The Samaja is one of the oldest and most respected Odia-language daily newspapers in India. Founded in 1919 by freedom fighter and social reformer Gopabandhu Das, the newspaper began as a weekly publication from Satyabadi in Odisha’s Puri district. It was established with the objective of supporting India’s freedom movement and promoting the growth and preservation of the Odia language.

Under the visionary leadership of Gopabandhu Das and with strong public support, The Samaja evolved into a leading voice in Odisha’s media landscape. In 1928, shortly before his passing, Gopabandhu entrusted the newspaper to the Lok Sevak Mandal (Servants of the People Society), a non-profit organization founded by renowned freedom fighter Lala Lajpat Rai. The organization continues to manage and publish the newspaper, carrying forward its legacy of public service and responsible journalism.
